I always come here for a quick look at your glorious artwork depicting the seasons; for that I am never disappointed. I am never disappointed with your writing either however, I often mark it for a "return reading" because your comments are sometimes lengthier than the time I have allows.

I am so pleased to return this a.m., after attending my church services. In the midst of a very small, somewhat elderly congregation, the priest invited us and led us through the wonderful Episcopal sacrament of baptism. (Due to the age of the congregants, they seldom actually attend a baby/youth or any other kind of baptism.) It was, let me select an appropriate word for it - refreshing, renewing, rewarding and, of course, redemptive. That accompanied with your wonderful post and "drenching" blessing has given my Sunday a wonderful beginning. Thank you!

Thank you for the image of the water rising up to meet Jesus. It made me remember that sometimes in high tide we forget that the water is there until it drenches us, while other times it's low tide and we must walk a bit further, purposely seeking the water. As we renew our baptismal vows tomorrow in worship, I hope to remind everyone of those images. Peace.

I had been thinking about God's yes in creation and in baptism, and the pointer to the image of the river rising in joy is just perfect. I always enjoy your reflections, though sense the preoccupation over the holidays which chimes in with my own. I am trying to take enough time to hear God's yes in the many little things in life -mindfulness if you like- and to remember my own baptism. Thank you.

Thank you for the blessing. May God also drench you, bless you, call your name, and may the peace of Christ reign within you.

Following worship this week is the annual congregational meeting, and then a leadership retreat, and your reflections give me inspiration as we ask together, How do we start the year as a congregation? What ways do we intentionally plan to live into our calling - both individually and as a community? It makes sense every year to begin our new roles and plans (and budget cycle) with the baptism of Jesus, our own baptisms; we begin there, claimed by God and called "Beloved" and from this flows our life together, our mission and ministry.
Thanks again for your wonderful reflections.

Jan,

Thanks for this reflection. I've been wrestling with the Mark text for the past week or longer and your reflections offered me another path to the river.

Peace,
Dale
