Many thanks, Beth! When I first came across the story in the midst of my research last year, my imagination was so taken by the imagery of that palimpsest. It was wonderful to read The Sisters of Sinai and to learn more about the story and these amazing sisters. (Very cool timing, that the book was going to press as I was first learning about the palimpsest and the sisters!)

Thanks again!

Thank you, Maureen. Yes---an amazing grace indeed. Your words reminded me of a beautiful, powerful sermon by Kara Root that I recently read on her blog: it's at What's with the Wine?

I found myself holding my breath as I read your words - your description of these amazing women traveling to Egypt - and the treasure they discover... I wanted to read faster and faster, and at the same time savor every thought... layer upon layer. What a fabulous and powerful connection you make to the text and you give me good questions for myself and my congregation! Thank you, Jan, for sharing so generously of yourself and your work and the work of others! So exciting!!

What I take hope from are the images of the Haitians lighting candles, praying, and singing into the dark of early morning. And their words, "Who can be angry at God?" Theirs is an amazing grace.
